FAQs
What is Hypnotherapy and how does it work?
Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis in a therapeutic setting, with the purpose of enabling clients to achieve incredible shifts in mindset and understanding, leading to effective and permanent change. How does this work? In hypnosis, the "chatter" of the conscious mind, is quietened, leaving space for more direct communication with what is often referred to as the "subconscious" mind. Our "subconscious" mind is directly linked to our emotions, feelings and beliefs and holds much greater power over why we do the things we do and why we feel the way we feel. Using hypnosis as a short cut to this part of the mind enables clients to get to the root cause of issues and effectively address them, usually in a very short time frame.
Why is hypnosis used in this form of therapy?
The definition of hypnosis as provided by the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists, Hypnosis is "a very deep state of relaxation, in other words, a normal, natural, healthy state of mind".
Hypnosis in therapy is used as a tool to achieve a state of both relaxation and focussed concentration. Whilst the experience is often compared to a feeling of deep relaxation, the focussed concentration occurs as the client follows the voice of the therapist, allowing the logical and analytical functioning of the conscious mind to become less active. This allows greater access and utilisation of the subconscious mind, the part of our mind that is associated with creativity, memory and belief formation. Using hypnosis to achieve this state offers both rapid access to and the understanding of the root cause of issues. Under hypnosis, it is also possible to experience an enhanced ability to take on new and transformative understanding, beliefs and approaches to issues that have previously been affecting clients in a negative way.
What is Rapid Transformational Therapy?
Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) is a method that has been developed by world renowned UK therapist Marisa Peer. Marisa has distilled over three decades worth of experience from her own highly successful career as a therapist to curate and create the suite of tools that makes up the RTT methodology. Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) draws from various aspects of hypnosis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), psychotherapy and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP).
What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis is a safe, comfortable and highly enjoyable process where the client is alert, aware of what is going on and always in control. It is deeply relaxing, engaging the parasympathetic nervous system, which slows down the heart rate and reduces symptoms of stress. Some describe the experience as "feeling like having a conversation with your eyes closed" and clients often "wake" from hypnosis with increased feelings of wellbeing.
Can I be made to do anything I don't want to do under hypnosis?
Absolutely not. You cannot be made to do or say anything that you don't want to while you are under hypnosis and the client is always fully in control, with the ability to bring themselves out of the hypnotic state at any time.
What is regression?
Regression is a therapeutic tool that is used in various forms of therapy, and is an integral part of the RTT method. It involves the therapist guiding the client under hypnosis to remember and review events in terms of the perceptions, feelings and emotions they have attached to them, and to gain greater understanding of the influence these have on the issue they are addressing in the session. Regression is not about obtaining a factual account of what happened but rather about gaining an understanding of the meaning that the client took from that event.
What if I regress back to something really painful or upsetting?
Regression is about reviewing memories attached to past experiences, not reliving them. The technique's purpose is to enable understanding and freedom from the emotional attachment given to past experiences, not to recreate the experience itself. Throughout the session, you will feel completely safe in the knowledge that you are simply observing experiences, not reliving them, but it is this observation that helps create understanding and the ability to reframe.

What if I remember something I don't want to talk about?
That is absolutely fine. You are always in control and can decide how much or how little detail you want to share. The purpose of regression is to explore the emotions and meaning attached to past events, not the event itself. Therefore, the details of the event do not contribute to the success of the process. Should a client uncover something they feel uncomfortable about sharing in the session, the details of the event do not need to be explored, only the feelings and emotions that the client has associated with that event. The client's comfort throughout the process is of primary importance and always respected.
Confidentiality
The confidentiality of my clients is paramount. Everything that happens during a session or conversation is completely confidential and all client records are kept on a password protected computer or in a locked filing cabinet in a locked office. However, (and extremely rarely) there may be exceptional circumstances where I am required by law to release information to a specific individual or agency or if a subpoena of records has been requested.
How many sessions will I need?
Rapid Transformational Therapy's success lies in its ability to uncover and address the root cause of issues in a very short timeframe, usually between 1 to 3 therapy sessions, differentiating it from many other forms of therapy that often require a much longer period of attendance. The need for further sessions is assessed at the end of the 21 day period after the initial hypnotherapy session and after the client has listened to their personalised recording for this period of time. Not all change is experienced immediately. It can happen incrementally or retroactively, so it is important to allow sufficient time after sessions to fully observe the effects.
Payment & Cancellation
Payment is required in full at least 48 hours prior to your actual hypnotherapy session. Session times cannot be confirmed until the agreed fee has cleared. A 24 hour cancellation policy is in place. Any changes to bookings within the 24 hour cancellation period will be charged at the full rate.
